Sickness, NOPs and Nintendo DS
February 24th, 2005 — Gaming
So I’ve been very sick the last couple of days. I did however find some time in my haze to get some programs byte patched. Finally.
0xa8fbb -> 0x90 0xa8fbc -> 0x90 0xa8fbd -> 0x90 0xa8fbe -> 0x90 0xa8fbf -> 0x90
Doesn’t look like much but those five ‘No Operations’ make a big difference! Maybe I’ll go into some greater detail later on.
Anyway, being sick does not excuse me from missing this fine tidbit, you can see the link above and BTW the parser didn’t work right [and that sucks cause I have a lot of links this post].
( http://hackds.blogspot.com/2005/02/100-dump-i-now-dumped-secure-area.html ) It seems darkfader ( http://www.darkfader.net ) has done it again and made more progress with the Nintendo DS
( http://www.nintendo.com/systemsds ) encryption. It looks like from the sites I checked out that the whole scheme is going to be broken within a week or two. Now, where are the DS emulators?
And it looks like another good thing has been picked up on in the mass media. ( http://www.torrent-news.com/archives/news/000074.php ) That’s right, now that more and more people are downloading TV off the i’net ‘The Man’ has something else to get crazed about. Oh well, we might lose the BT file sharing but IRC will never be popular with the mass internet culture so that’s where I will be.
g’dnight all!

Slackware release and Nintendo DS
February 10th, 2005 — Gaming, News
On the 6th slackware dot org ( http://www.slackware.org ) has released a new build of Slackware Linux, version 10.1 for those keeping track. Slackware has long been my favorite distro so it looks like I’ll be pulling angstridden dot net off-line tonight to rebuild it with the new release. angstridden is currently running version 9.1 so it’s a bit behind. I’ll post my thoughts sometime tomorrow I guess (if I get a chance). Download slackware from bittorrent ( http://www.slackware.org/getslack/torrents.php ).
I don’t think anyone who looks at this site actually cares (or follows this type of thing) but darkfader ( http://darkfader.net/ds/ and http://hackds.blogspot.com/ ) has been working his magic on the Nintendo DS ( http://www.nintendo.com/systemsds ) much to the delight of the homebrew (and rom
communities). He was the first person to actually run homebrew code on the DS as well as the first to dump the Metroid DS Demo and Mario DS game carts. He is currently working on fully cracking the DS encryption scheme and if you want to help him out he’s made a distributed client ( http://darkfader.net/ds/stats.php ) to work the numbers. Currently the 1st test is at 63% done with some 290 different clients running his program. So, if you’ve got some spare CPU time (and trust me you had better have a good CPU fan since this code pushes it up to 99%) download the client and join the fun.
That’s all for now back to my day off.
The weekend is over? Already??
February 6th, 2005 — Blog, Gaming
Well, I’m back home after a nice weekend trip up to Albany. I didn’t really do too much of anything. Just relaxed and slept really. Kris had to to work (both school and her job) so I didn’t get to spend as much time with her as I wanted but it was still nice.
I picked up a copy of ‘Game Informer’ ( http://www.gameinformer.com/ ) at Barnes and Noble which is a pretty good magazine except for the fact that I seem to always have my hands on a game before the magazine reviews are out. There was a big mistake on the release calandar this issue saying that ‘Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth’ ( http://www.callofcthulhu.com/ ) was being released on the 1st. I’m starting to think that game is never coming out. Probably because I’m looking forward to playing it…
Anyway, this is starting to sound too much like a blog so I’m out…

So, I’m down here in NJ trying to make some money. I could really use it since I’ve had my car in the shop twice over the last two weeks. Yay! Anyway, the car is running pretty good so whatever. I haven’t done too much work on the site due to always being busy. But, one of these days I’ll get back at it.
I’ve been spending a bit of my free time helping Ragowit from http://www.grh.se with the database for his main site. I’ve also put together a crap program which seems to be working pretty well ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/shin-repack/ ). I think I’m going to take some time tonight to brush up the code on this site and make sure that I didn’t miss something when upgrading.
Maybe I’ll also try and add in some ICS blogging functions to the script. Hmm. We’ll see I guess.
Oh and everyone look out for Mikey’s FurryCon2k5!!!
