Of F.E.A.R. And Oblivion

Alma - F.E.A.RNine days ago I received a press release informing me that the single player demo for the upcoming F.E.A.R. expansion - Extraction Point, had been released.  So, I figured figured what the hell and downloaded it.  Well, I enjoyed the demo so much I decided that I should run out and pick up the original version.  Over the next several days I fought my way through the game, mostly playing in the middle of the night (for the best experience).  It was terrific - I should have picked it up much sooner.  Alma was a bit too much of a Sadako clone for my tastes but I supposed there aren't too many way to portray a creepy little girl.  My only problem with the game, now that I've finished it, is that I don't want to replay it because it just won't be as creepy the next time through - guess I'll have to wait till Extraction Point hits next month.

Anyway, if you haven't played it I suggest you pick it up!

While I was out picking up F.E.A.R. I also decided I should get a copy of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.  I'm not too far yet but, I'm going to try to make it to the end of the main quest.  I tried to get into Morrowind Game of the Year Edition for Xbox a while back but couldn't - hopefully this time it goes better.  One thing I noticed so far is that the system I installed it on needs some more memory. ;)

Battlezone PSP Screen Shots

I was browsing around the press site of investors favorite company: Atari, looking for some information on the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics PSP game, which not even the main Atari web site has info on… I wasn't really surprised that I didn't find anything - however, I did find some new screens for the upcoming Battlezone remake for the PSP. Battlezone, which was announced back at E3 if I remember correctly, is an updated version of the classic from the 80's. The game puts you in control of a tank and tasks you with blowing stuff up. ;) My kind of game. The four player WiFi and the promise of downloadable content and a level editor make this one to be watched. Fresh yet-to-be-posted-on-IGN screen shots after the cut.

Check them out after the cut.

I.O. Silver For The Apple IIe

This morning VH1 Game Break had a post about a game called I.O. Silver for the Apple IIe. It sounded familiar so I decided to dig into the Apple IIe rom archive and see if it was in there. Sure enough it was. The game was published in December of 1984 by Beagle Bros and is considered one of the finest Apple IIe games ever to be released.

Killzone: Liberation Interview

I was browsing around Evil Avatar and I came across a post linking to an interview with Mathijs de Jonge, the Game Director and Lead Designer of Killzone: Liberation.

The player can not directly control the camera. However we’ve designed the camera so that there is never a need or a desire for it. What happens is that as soon as an enemy approaches the player the camera will intelligently pan and zoom to frame the situation in the best possible way. This happens so subtlety that the player in most cases won’t even notice. We designed a camera system we call PICS, Pseudo-isometric Intelligent Camera System.

Go give it a read.

Killzone: Liberation Demo Screen Shots

Killzone

I received my copy of the Killzone: Liberation Demo for the PSP this morning. You need firmware 2.71 to play it so I'm playing through devhook so, I figured I'd take a bunch of screen shots and post them up for any one who wants a look. The first set of 15 is up after the cut. I have to make a meeting so I'll post the rest this afternoon. ;)

*update* Switched over to thumbnails.

*update 2* Hey Guerrilla Games guys I noticed you've dropped in a couple of times - you should send me a preview copy of the game.  ;)

Peter Jackson Talks Halo

It seems Peter Jackson has a couple of things to say about the Halo movie and Ain’t It Cool News was there when he spoke.

We’re still developing a script and we’ve still got work to go on the script and that’s underway, but while that’s happening Neill is just producing his vision of this world. It is original and new and has not been seen before on the screen. It’s not Ridley Scott, it’s not James Cameron, it’s not what we’ve seen before, but it’s something new and fresh and it’s cool. That was important to us. Someone who was going to not go the cliched way, but go in the direction that they had an original vision for and Neill has got that in spades. We’re feeling really, really good.

I can see that tying all that CG technology to some Lovecraftian horror is going to be awesome.

*update* Had to add the Lovecraftian quote… Duh pasted wrong part of the line.
