Podcast Roll

One of the nice things about work is that it allows me to keep up with a handful of podcasts. I’ve distilled my list down to a handful of shows that I regularly listen to. My favorite by far would be the casts from the 1up.com family of shows, with 2600’s ‘Off the Hook‘ following closely behind. If you don’t already have them (and have some time to listen) - I highly suggest you add these RSS feeds to you favorite feed reader today.

Beyond The Red Line

Beyond the Red Line - I’m not sure exactly how I came across it. I must have read about it or over heard a conversation somewhere. All I know for sure is I downloaded the demo a while ago and finally got around to installing it. Beyond the Red Line is a full conversion of the PC space sim Freespace 2, based in the universe of the sci-fi TV show Battlestar Galactica. It is fully standalone, so there is no need to search Ebay looking for a copy.

BTRL 01 BTRL 02 BTRL 03

The version of the game I downloaded is only a demo but, it shows a fantastic level of polish. Running on top of an engine released in 1999 is not noticeable thanks to The Freespace 2 Source Code Project’s work on the code base. I really need to get the wireless adpter so I can use my 360 controller on the PC. Controlling the ship with the keyboard is just not quite good enough.

BTRL 04 BTRL 05 BTRL 06

I’m excited to see where this game goes. Hopefully, we will get a proper full release soon, which I’ll try to follow with a proper review. I’ve played the game for a little while and it actually convinced me to go back and watch the Battlestar Galactica mini-series - I’m up to episode four of the first season…

360 Warranty Extended (Again)

Microsoft has finally broken down and extended the Xbox 360’s warranty (yet again).à Peter Moore has posted an open letter on Xbox.com (which basically amounts to acknowledgment of the design flaws) explaining that the warranty was extended to deal with the ‘red ring of death issue’.

Now, if only they would issue a statement lowering the price of the 120 gig hdd.
