If you saw my PS2 pile of shame list you saw that one of the top titles is Persona 3: FES. It made the list because I’ve heard from so many people that it’s a great game. I have never played any of the Persona titles - actually, I’ve never played any of the Shin Megami Tensei titles. I’m not sure why, it’s just that these games just never crossed my path when they came out but I’m going to do what I can to make up for this. As with all Atlus games the Persona titles are going require a small investment if your getting them from eBay. I got extremely lucky with my copies and managed to actually hunt down both Persona: Revelations and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment and stay under $20. As always the cheapest way to pickup older games is yard sales or thrift stores, although finding exactly what your looking for right when your looking for it is a
At this point I’m only around two hours into Persona: Revelations so I can’t really say too much about it yet. I can however talk about why I decided not to play it on my PSOne. That’s right I decided to begin playing using the ePSXe emulator. Why would I do this? Well, I’ve got some trips to NYC coming up in the near future so that means time on the Metro North Railroad. So, I’ll be playing on my PSP as well since, the save games between the PC emulator and PopStation are compatible.
Also, it looks like I’m going to pick up a copy of Persona 2: Innocent Sin from eBay. Innocent Sin was never released here in the states but, a few days ago Siliconera posted a link to a blog about a fan translation project.
*Note* The last screen shot is from the released version of Persona not from the fan traslation.
It seems the TiTAN Demo group has released a music player for the PSP! I have yet to try it out unfortunately but, from the comments on the release thread most people seem to like it. Sony has announced that the PSP 3.0 firmware is ready for those willing (stupid?) to upgrade. Along with version 3.0 we finally get official word on PS1 emulation! Remember the PS1 emulator for PSP? Well, forget about it unless your one of the six or seven people who managed to buy a PS3. That’s right a PS3 is required to play PS1 games.  How lame.
I brought up Battlezone for the PSP a while back, and it quietly faded from my mind. Well now that has all changed! I bring to you the pack shot which ended up in my mail box a little while ago. So, I’m guessing Atari is still releasing this thing…

*update* My engrish is strong it seems - I really need a copy editor. Anyway, I just received word from those crazy cats at Atari — my review copy should be here shortly! Have they done the original game justice? Is Atari planning a 1-for-10 reverse stock split? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Check back and maybe I’ll have some answers.  Maybe.
*Note: Something seems to be up with my webserver. The fullsize image isn’t showing up. I won’t be able to look into it until later tonight.Fixed It - the original image was saved in CYMK format - which to my knowledge most browsers won’t render. I’ve uploaded the corrected image.*
I just recieved an e-mail with the Euro-pack shot and some screens. Some of the classic Taito titles inculded are: Alphine Ski, Elevator Action, Rainbow Island Extra, Crazy Ballon, Chack n’ Pop, Lunar Rescue, Balloon Bomber, Legend of Kage, The Fairyland Story, Rastan, The New Zealand Story, Raimais, Cameltry, Qix, Kiki Kaikai, and Kuri Kinton. There is still no US release date. But, I’m pretty sure all of these titles are emulated through MAME so I probably won’t be picking it up when it does come out.
Take-Two and Rockstar Games have announced that Rockstar Leeds is bringing The Warriors to the PlayStation Portable - just in time for the holiday season! Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games explains that the PSP “allows us to deliver the experience in an entirely different way, while staying very faithful to the original source material and maintaining the high standards we set for ourselves as a developer.” Does this mean it’s not a direct port?
The first game I bought for my PSP was Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, and out of any game I’ve bought/borrowed/rented, it has spent more time in the UMD slot then any other. Well, a couple of days ago a friend of mine turned up with a copy of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, and after a bit of haggling he left with out it - giving me a couple of days to check it out. I have never played a golf sports sim and honestly after this I think I know why. It is very unforgiving, I’m having a hell of a time getting used to the controls. Your swing is controlled by the analog nub, pull down for back swing and then push up to swing. The putting system is very odd - showing you the line of the ball before the putt (I think I’m getting used to that though). One interesting aspect of the game so far (I’m only three “days” into it) is EA’s GameFace - it makes it possible to create an in game character with a pretty close resemblence to the player. I’m going to give the game a couple more hours and see how I feel about it then - it has almost caused me to break a knuckle already…
SEGA and Planet Moon Studios have just announced the revival of another classic SEGA franchise - After Burner! Planet Moon is bring the game - After Burner: Black Falcon to the PSP sometime in the Spring of 2007. Bob Stevenson, the CEO of Planet Moon, noted in the press release that this version is “approximately 9000% more portable than the original arcade cabinet”. The game will allow customization of 19 officially licensed military planes, which the player can use in solo missions or against friends in one of the multiplayer modes. While there is no specific information on the wireless play we do know there will be competitive and co-op WiFi modes. The story centers on a mercenary organization known as Black Falcon, who have stolen 13 top secret fighter planes, and it is up to the player to get them back.
Once I track down some screen shots I’ll be sure to pass them along.
