Dreamcast Today!

Racketboy has posted a terrific write up covering his picks for the top Dreamcast games for today. Here’s a sample of his list:

Out of this short list I only have three: Jet Grind Radio, Power Stone and Ikaruga. Well, at least now I know where I should be focusing my collecting efforts. Anyway, if your like me - late to the Dreamcast party - this list is for you.

After Burner: Black Falcon PSP

SEGA and Planet Moon Studios have just announced the revival of another classic SEGA franchise - After Burner!  Planet Moon is bring the game - After Burner: Black Falcon to the PSP sometime in the Spring of 2007.  Bob Stevenson, the CEO of Planet Moon, noted in the press release that this version is “approximately 9000% more portable than the original arcade cabinet”.  The game will allow customization of 19 officially licensed military planes, which the player can use in solo missions or against friends in one of the multiplayer modes.  While there is no specific information on the wireless play we do know there will be competitive and co-op WiFi modes.  The story centers on a mercenary organization known as Black Falcon, who have stolen 13 top secret fighter planes, and it is up to the player to get them back.

Sega Taps Planet Moon

Sega has announced that Planet Moon Studios will be developing a PSP game based on "classic content".

"SEGA’s vast library of properties allows for unlimited possibilities in revitalising fan-favourites on the PSP," said Bob Stevenson, Co-Founder and CEO of Planet Moon Studios. "Our passion for SEGA’s classic brands combined with our extensive background in crafting original games will help us create a compelling new chapter in this fan-favourite franchise."

"With an incredible archive of established franchises, SEGA is always seeking to establish strategic partnerships with top development talent to revitalise our vintage brands," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "Planet Moon’s reputation of creating critically acclaimed games makes them the perfect choice to inject originality and ingenuity to our classic IPs."

Sega seems to be committed to breathing some new life into it's vast back catalog of titles. As soon as I find out exactly which IP has been picked I'll pass it on.

Sega Genesis Collection For PS2 And PSP

Sega has announced that they are gearing up to bring their back catalog to the forefront with the upcoming release of Sega Genesis Collection for both the PSP and PS2! Backbone Entertainment in charge of getting the collection of 30 titles including, Altered Beast, Sonic Sega LogoThe Hedgehog, Shinobi III, Phantasy Star, and the original SEGA Genesis version of Golden Axe ready to go. According to the press release the PSP version will use the wireless functions to “allow Genesis fans to connect with friends for a wireless multiplayer gaming experience”. As soon as I get some screenshots I’ll be sure to pass them along.
