Wii’s In The Wild

It has finally happened! I have seen a Wii in the store! Well, actually I’ve seen three Wii’s. This morning Kris and I where doing some shopping at the Target in Latham, NY and as we browsed through electronics I saw that the Wii spot was for the first time – not empty (or full with other Nintendo merchandise).

The funniest part of the whole thing is – yes, I left the store without one. After all this time, I don’t want one any longer. I’m just not excited by the system anymore, the novelty of it has worn off I guess…

A Wii Tale

Earlier today a friend IM’d be to tell me the tale of a mutual friend who currently resides in Portland, OR.  It seems that this past Sunday she decided it was time to get a Nintendo Wii and was willing to wait in line for it – if that’s what it took.  Well, after waiting in line at some big box store (I’m not sure which one) for about three hours her wish was granted!  She went home with a brand new Wii!

After carefully unpacking and hooking up the Wii to the TV – it came time to place a CD in drive – and much to her horror (and anyone else nearby I’m guessing) the drive accepted the disc with the most horrible grinding you have ever heard…  With the short supply of Wii’s still plaguing the states it’s not like she can just exchange it at the store she will have to get it fixed through Nintendo.

Look at it this way – at least you got a Wii.  icon razz A Wii Tale

Gamestop/EB Games Wii Preorder

The area I live in has 6 EB/Gamestop‘s, I took the time this morning to check out three of those – and from the looks of it the Nintendo Wii will do OK when it is launched this November. I stopped at the EB in the local mall (mostly so I didn’t have to stand outside) – making a half hearted attempt at securing a preorder. I say half hearted because, well, even though I arrived at the mall very early, I immediately left and went to Dunkin Donuts (I do have priorities). Anyway, once I was armed with my coffee, I returned to the mall and stepped into line – I was number 15. A little while later number 16 shows up. After watching him edge toward the front of the line for a few minutes I realized he was indeed attempting to slide is way up to number 12 (and probably further if he could do it). All the while he’s telling some girl a story about how Best Buy preorders are terrible because people will just cut you in line. Hehe. Needless to say once the store gate opened I (politely) let him know that he might want to step back behind me – which he did.

Anyway, I’m sad to report that this EB only had 11 preorder slots. Two of which were taken by store employees before the store opened – I hate when they do that. I’m not overly concerned bases on the Wii production numbers. I may not get one on launch day but I’ll get one eventually. icon wink Gamestop/EB Games Wii Preorder I called the six stores in my area just to verify that yes they are all out a preorder slots. So, yeah it looks like the Wii will do just fine…
